Autechre’s melody is back in full, but their sound design keeps mutating the cognitive coherence of the experience. SIGN was never an immediate record, unlike PLUS, and I think that is where it’s strengths lie, it’s a slow burn and doesn’t rely on gnarly beats to grab one’s attention.
